carbon monoxide detector upstairs or downstairs image

Answer
air density is 1.204g/L
carbon monoxide density is 1.145g/L
helium density is 0.179g/L
any gas that has lower density than air will rise
to answer your question, if its leak through a window and gone outside, it will not go upstairs. if the house is sealed, it will filled up downstairs first, then upstairs. it will take a long time to fill up the whole house because the density is very close to air density.

Could there be carbon monoxide in my house?
RiRi
I was barbecuing earlier today on my front porch. The grill was about 3 - 5 feet away from my windows and door. My windows weren't open but my door was with the screen door closed. Was I too close? Could the gas have seeped inside of my house at all? Thanks.
Answer
Air your house out. If you have a basement turn a fan on down there and circulate the air. AND get one of those detectors, one for upstairs and another for downstairs. Then if it goes off, move the barbecue.
