carbon monoxide detectors home depot image

I started noticing that the entire house smells like strong laundry detergent and a little exhaust whenever, I had the washer or dryer on. The smell is making me a little dizzy. After some investigation, I discovered the smell was coming from the air ducts that normally warm air would come of when the heater is turned on. I closed the ducts and some of the smell still get through. I also checked the exhaust pipe in the back of the dryer and made sure that it was connected as well. Is this smell normal? Also, are there any suggestions on how I can fix this problem?
Yes, I do have a gas dryer which was just installed a few days ago.
Answer
It sounds like you are referring to a natural gas dryer? Most gas companies offer free inspections of you appliances, or it would be wise to call an appliance dealer and ask for an inspection. Incomplete combustion of natural gas can cause carbon monoxide which can be deadly, and it can build up in your body. You should have this looked at before using it again. Also consider getting a CO detector. ACE hardware, Lowes and Home Depot all carry them.

How do I check 4 carbon monoxide?

Recently, every time the gas logs come on in my house, me, my brother, sister, and mom start getting headaches. My brother is the worst, also having nausea. Ithink it's because he sleeps near the heater.

They sell monitors that you can either plug in to a wall socket or use with batteries: You can find them at most large department stores like Walmart, Target, Sears, Home Depot, or Lowes.
They are kind of like smoke detectors.
