Brand New Carbon Monoxide alarm beeping randomly?

I just had my heater fixed and the guy gave me a free CO detector, but about three days later it started beeping randomly. i thought it was signaling carbon monoxide so i got out of the house and let it air out but the alarm stopped pretty quickly anyway. But two days after that i had an actual carbon monoxide problem from a car, and the beep it does for that is different. When it goes off randomly (which it does almost every day) it beeps once, waits about thirty seconds, then beeps again. I can press the reset button and after a little fiddling it will stop. I dont know why it would be doing that if it is brand new and just installed.

Could be one of a few different problems, depending of what kind of CO Detector you received. Some detectors just plug into a standard electrical outlet (with a battery back-up). Another kind is just battery operated. The third kind would be hooked up to a household alarm system (I doubt this is the case since you received the detector from a furnace repair company). I would first replace the battery (usually it is a 9 volt style). If that does not fix the problem, call the company that gave you the detector, advise them that the unit appears to be faulty, and ask them to replace it (at their cost for giving you a faulty item).

Smoke Detector Problem? Driving me nuts!!!?

Q. My smoke detector in my hallway has been going off for NO reason. No smoke, no nothing. I'm sure its a smoke detector and not a carbon monoxide detector. Three weeks ago it started to go off, and then it stopped. Today it went off with a single beep. A few minutes later, it emitted three beeps, then one. It just goes off at random times and is annoying the crap out of me. Can anyone tell me the problem?

If it is a hardwired unit, it may need a vacuuming. Smoke detector's don't last longer than I think it's 7 or 8 years. There is something in it that wears out. Sorry, it's been awhile. Take down the unit and take it to an electrical supply store and ask them for a compatible unit. Then reinstall. Actually, you should replace all the smoke detectors if they are the same age and hardwired.

is there carbon monoxide in my house?

I recently tested my dual "kiddie" carbon monoxide / smoke alarm and after the test I got 3 more beeps informing me of carbon monoxide 3 seconds after the fire and CO test beeps. So I tested it again and I got the same 3 carbon monoxide beeps 3 seconds after the test and then nothing but the green "hush" mode light.. I wanted to know if this means there is carbon monoxide in my house? This only occurs when I hold the dual alarm in the air around my indoor gas air heater/cooler thing-when it's running.- Should I be worried because I never get carbon monoxide warnings otherwise. Why am I getting three additional beeps and a warning for carbon monoxide after the initial test beeps....

Carbon monoxide is heavier than air,and will normally be raised by the heat of an appliance and then fall,which would set off any detector.If the alarm is not activating on its own,then there shouldn't be a problem.

About 3 hours ago while my mom was cooking our Carbon Monoxide Detector began to beep. We hurriedly opened the doors and got out of our apartment and went into the hallway and called 911. They came within in 2 minutes, literally. As my mom and I waited outside, they opened every window in our house and unplugged our oven and all of our gas usage. They asked us for our syptoms and me and my mom were getting tired, but that quickly went away and she was dizzy but it's gone now because she just needed to eat. The fire department told us our carbon monoxide levels went down already, but since I suffer from anxiety attacks we didn't go in. It's been three hours and now we're back in the apartment.

Are we safe? I'm still having shortness of breath because of my anxiety. Are we safe?
It's 9pm in NYC.

Yes, you should be fine. If you begin to feel tired while you're inside your home, than get out and call someone.

Toxic tea...Is it possible I bought a bad batch?

So I'm brewing/steeping some Celestial Seasonings* tea the old fashioned way, on the stove. Plenty of steam and all that (smelled great) when my carbon monoxide/smoke detector goes crazy! Telling me, yeah, telling me (I bought a talking detector recently) to get out of the house! "leave the house immediately!" BEEP BEEP BEEP!!!! The thing is...the detector is more than 20 feet away from the kitchen in a completely different area of the house. And, as soon as the steam cleared, all was well. I swear I thought I was going batty! I've brewed tea 1000s of times and never been warned to leave the house! Bad batch???

BQ: Do I have a shot at winning a lawsuit for "mental anguish" from either the tea company or the detector company???

Plz and Thx for any thoughts and insights. Whew!

We just recently installed a new light fixture in our house, and we had to turn off a breaker to do it... unfortunately, it was the same breaker as the smoke alarms, and now they're all going haywire. I have two Kidde KN-COSM-IB combo smoke/carbon monoxide detectors that are three years old. At first they were just beeping every minute or so, so I tried to reset them by turning the power back off and taking out the batteries for a few minutes, but now they're beeping and saying "low battery." So I replaced all the batteries. Still beeping every 20 seconds telling me the batteries are low. Any idea how to get this to stop? Otherwise I'm going to disconnect them and remove the batteries so my ears stop ringing!
Sorry, I wasn't clear... they kept beeping the entire time the breaker was off, but even now that I've reconnected it it's happening. I've changed the batteries twice with no luck...
We actually went to the store and got a new set of batteries, and after we installed those and reset the breaker, it's been quiet. I guess I was just unlucky with two sets of bad batteries! Regardless, I'm just glad that it's stopped... the light fixture is working without any problems and the smoke/carbon monoxide detectors are testing normal. Thanks everyone for your help!

Try re-connecting your breaker to turn on the lights and fix the annoying beeping noise, if that fails, unplug and then plug in all of the smoke alarms. And if all of that doesn't work, replace the batteries.

Does a carbon monoxide alarm sound like a truck backing up?

Something in my neighbor's apartment has been continuously beeping for the past three days. Nobody seems to be inside there and the door is unlocked.The alarm sounds just like a car backing up. Not overly loud either -- at least not obnoxiously loud -- but loud enough to disturb me in my apartment.
Went to the super, he said he would call the police or some shit... apparently NOT-- it's still beeping.

So, what does the CO alarm sound like? Continuous beeping? High pitched? Depends on the brand?
A truck backing up for three days straight? F*cking moron.
... and the door is unlocked. I don't think people live there anymore but.... I'm not 100% sure. I don't really wanna snoop. Can't be any of the other alarms... I would have heard them before. -___-
I've seen people come and go from the apartment but not in the last week.

THE sound has been CONTINUOUS for the past three days: beep, beep, beep, beep... and so on. NON-STOP.

I don't have an alarm in my apt.

It does depends on the model, but for the most part its high pitch to awake you in from sleep. If it was CO, then if you had a detector it would go off as well. If its loud but only gors off intermittenlty instead of continously steady, then the batteries are probably dying in his smoke detector or CO detector. Are you just sure sure that there's no one home?
